A pre-workout product is not a prerequisite for personal training. Before adding caffeine, look at what you already consume, how it affects you and whether it interferes with sleep. A higher dose is not automatically a better preparation for a session.
Read the label and consider the whole day
Coffee, tea, energy drinks and supplements can all contribute caffeine. Write down the product, serving size and time you use it. A scoop or a can may not correspond to the serving you assume, and one product can contain several ingredients.
The FDA explains that 400 milligrams per day is an amount not generally associated with negative effects for most adults, while sensitivity varies. This is not a pre-workout target, a recommended single dose, or a guarantee that an amount is suitable for you.
Notice effects beyond feeling more alert
The FDA also identifies sleep problems, anxiety and a racing heart among signs of too much caffeine. Discuss caffeine with your healthcare professional if you have concerns about symptoms, medication, pregnancy or a health condition.
For your training record, note whether your usual drink changes how you feel at the appointment and later that night. Feeling stimulated does not by itself tell you whether the exercise was appropriate or your technique improved.
Prepare for training without relying on a supplement
Set out your clothes, confirm the appointment and arrive with enough time to explain how you feel. Those steps help your trainer organize the session. If you are consistently exhausted before training, discuss the schedule and recovery rather than assuming a stronger product is the answer.
Our sleep and training guide offers a simple way to record the pattern. Keep the supplement decision separate from choosing a training format you can maintain.
Bring questions rather than chasing a dose
Take a photograph of the product label when asking a pharmacist or clinician about its suitability. Tell your trainer what you use and how you feel, without treating a gym recommendation as individualized medication or supplement advice.
You can come to an Elite Fitness complimentary assessment with questions about preparation and routine. Buying a pre-workout product is not part of getting started.
